Please use the following as a guideline in preparing the "Acknowledgements" section in your manuscripts.  Links are provided to facilities' Acknowledgments pages, if available.

Stanford FACS Facilities (SSFS):

It has become increasingly important for our grant funding for work done in the FACS facility to be acknowledged in any publications that 
use flow cytometry data or sorted cells generated in the facilty. A simple sentence, similar to the one below: 

Cell sorting/flow cytometry analysis for this project was done on instruments in the Stanford Shared FACS Facility. 

Of course, anything more detailed, or acknowledgement of particular staff, is always welcome! 
Moreover, several of the instruments were obtained via NIH Shared Instrument Grants. If you use one of these instruments, something 
similar to the following should be in your paper: 

Data (or sorting) was collected (performed ) on an instrument in the Shared FACS Facility obtained using NIH S10 Shared Instrument 
Grant (_____). 

The instruments which require this acknowledgement and grant #'s are:

Stanford-SLAC Cryo-EM Center (S2C2):

Any use of the resources at S2C2 requires acknowledgement in publications as follows:

“Some of this work was performed at the Stanford-SLAC Cryo-EM Facilities, supported by Stanford University, SLAC and the
National Institutes of Health S10 Instrumentation Programs. The content is solely the responsibility of the authors and does not
necessarily represent the official views of the National Institutes of Health."


SDSS Core Facilities:

Equipment request forms contain terms for acknowledgments.


Stanford Nanofabrication Facility (SNF): 

Please help SNF by acknowledging any use of SNF resources in your work. Part of the value of SNF lies, in part, in the visibility our facility 
maintains in the research community. As such, we ask that labmembers acknowledge any contributions of SNF resources in publications or 
presentations. A written acknowledgement should ideally read:

"Work was performed in part in the nano@Stanford labs, which are supported by the National Science Foundation as part of the National 
Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure under award ECCS-1542152.”

In presentations, please simply list the Stanford Nanofabrication Facility with your other acknowledgements. We greatly appreciate your support.


Stanford Nano Shared Facilities (SNSF): 

If your research at SNSF generates data that appear in any type of publication, you need to acknowledge SNSF in that publication.

We recommend the following wording:

Part of this work was performed at the Stanford Nano Shared Facilities (SNSF), supported by the National Science Foundation under award 
ECCS-2026822.

If staff members helped design your experiment or interpret your data, or if they made any other significant intellectual contribution, we expect that you 
will acknowledge their contributions. If appropriate, invite the staff member to co-author the publication.  Last updated: September 17, 2020


School of Medicine Core Facilities:



Mass Spectrometry Facilities (SUMS):

•Importance. Authorship/acknowledgement of the core lab is crucial in supporting ongoing core operations and development, as well as in 
acquiring future instrumentation and capabilities.

Publication lists are essential to demonstrate impact, support grant proposals, and comply with reporting requirements.

•Assistance. SUMS scientists are available to assist with mass spec-related content, review, and method write-ups. •Stanford Policy. As with 
all Stanford core labs, if work done with SUMS produces data in a publication, the lab must be acknowledged ("Vincent Coates Foundation Mass 
Spectrometry Laboratory, Stanford University Mass Spectrometry") in the publication. Further, if SUMS staff provide significant experimental design, 
data interpretation, or other intellectual contribution (as evaluated by the PI), then it is expected that these individuals will be coauthors on the 
publication.

•Guidelines. ABRF Recommended Guidelines for Authorship on Manuscripts Guidelines from the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities 
for distinguishing when authorship or acknowledgement is appropriate.

NIH requirement for S10 instrumentation

Orbi Elite: "This work utilized the Thermo LTQ-Orbitrap mass spectrometer system (RRID:SCR_018694) that was purchased with funding from National Institutes of Health Shared Instrumentation grant S10RR027425."

Xevo TQ-XS: "This work utilized the Waters Xevo TQ-XS mass spectrometer system (RRID:SCR_018510) that was purchased with funding from National Institutes of Health Shared Instrumentation grant S10OD026962."

Orbi Eclipse: "This work utilized the Thermo Orbitrap Eclipse nanoLC/MS system (RRID:SCR_022212) that was purchased with funding from National Institutes of Health Shared Instrumentation grant 1S10OD030473."


Stanford Cancer Institute acknowledgement: Since SUMS as an SCI Shared Resource receives grant support from the National Cancer 
Institute, use should be acknowledged in any publications. The following statement is suggested: "This work was supported in part by 
NIH P30 CA124435 utilizing the Stanford Cancer Institute Proteomics Shared Resource."

Wu-Tsai Neurosciences Facilities:
